UK Haptics develop ‘virtual reality training solutions’ for practice based learning and skills rehearsal in medical and clinical
situations using 3D virtual reality environments to create life-like simulations.
We aim to provide a safe environment for clinical students and practitioners to learn new skills, perfect techniques and build confidence
and competence without incurring the mounting costs of disposables.
The simulations take place in real time and provide testing together with user feedback and clinical metrics.
The one major thing to note with our products is that they all sit on one platform so you don’t need to buy yet
another simulator to use another product. You buy one simulator and just slot our other products on top of the platform.
You start with a set of hardware and our Clinical Skills Trainer (CST) and then add one or more simulator packages to create your
own suite of simulator software. While trainees need to use the kit itself to do the virtual reality training, the software allows
you to add other curriculum materials into the package and all these materials and trainee results are accessible via a secure
website for access anywhere.
No one wants to learn how to use a piece of software just so they can train in another skill, yet most simulators provide one set of
training using one piece of software.
UK Haptics have taken a different approach on this and have produced a simulator using one central piece of software, so you only have to
use one of our simulators to be able to use all the others. Doesn’t that make sense? In the same way that Microsoft Office uses one set
way of doing things so when you’ve used one you can theoretically use them all, then so we have done the same. It seems to make logical
sense and we hope you agree.
Our base software is Clinical Skills Trainer. You can find out more about that and our other products by following the links below.
Current Products from UK Haptics:
- Virtual Veins
- Clinical Skills Trainer
The first UK Haptics training ‘solution’ is “Virtual Veins” for venepuncture using a set of 3D virtual reality arm and hand models that
can be manipulated. There are different models available; Virtual Veins offers an adult male hand, an Afro-Caribbean hand and a geriatric
hand in the first version with more models and patient scenarios to follow.
As part of our commitment to healthcare you will find that UK Haptics is mapping Virtual Veins to the NHS Knowledge Skills Framework to
help students and practitioners map their learning via user feedback, reporting and clinical metrics for their Continuous Professional
Development and KSF gateways.
